The Bathinda police were today provided with equipment worth Rs 5 lakh for doing election duties.
Apart from installing around 30 CCTV cameras, the police are also provided with special powder for demarcation so that an approaching vehicle can spot a naka ahead.
Ropes have also been provided for keeping mobs or crowds at bay.
Police officials said two to three CCTV cameras were installed at almost every police naka and their control system was set up at nearby places.
“We have been complaining that due to fog, the police are unable to identify a high-speed vehicles, which usually rammed into iron barricades. The new torches are quite effective in this regard,” a senior police official said.
Apart from troches, dragon lights and jackets have been also provided to the policemen deployed at the nakas.
The police have also got mobile loudspeakers to address the public during any eventuality or in assembling the police force at one place.
SSP Swapan Sharma, admitting that the gadgets have been provided to the police force, said it was the need of the hour.
He said he was expecting excellent results as the new articles would help the force in doing their duty efficiently.
