Cops launch foot patrolling to nab habitual offenders

The Bathinda police have launched a drive against habitual offenders in theft and loot incidents in the city. The police have started foot patrolling and surveillance.

A list of 449 accused in theft and loot incidents, who got bail in the past one year from April 28 last year to April 28 this year, has been prepared.

If anyone is found suspicious, they are arrested under preventive custody.

Special checks have been launched in Chandsar Basti, Dhobiana Basti, Gobindpura, Guru Nanakpura and areas near the thermal plant from where many stolen motorcycles have been recovered.

The police have also started foot patrolling in the city so that whenever any incident of snatching takes place, they are able to nab the offenders.

The police nabbed nine persons in the city on Wednesday, who are suspected to be involved in snatching and theft incidents, which took place in the city recently.

Senior Superintendent of Police Naveen Singla even held a meeting recently in which he directed police officials to intensify patrolling in the city.

SSP Naveen Singla also admitted that few snatching incidents have taken place in the city, but claimed they were taking tough measures to curb them.

He added that they had taken actions to curb snatching and theft incidents in the city.

“We have started arresting habitual offenders. Even foot patrolling has also been started in the city,” the SSP said.

In the wake of sudden surge observed in snatching and theft cases, residents have been perturbed over the issue for the past few weeks.

More than five snatching and theft incidents have been reported in this month so far.
