Faridkot, September 22

Amidst a lot of hue and cry and allegations of ‘doctored’ victory on some seats flying thick and fast, the District Electorate Office declared result of 49 Panchayat Samiti seats out of total 62 seats in Faridkot, Jaito and Kotkapura blocks by 8.15 pm on Saturday evening. No official results were declared on any of the 10 Zila Parishad seats in the district.

In Faridkot block, out of the total 25 Panchayat Samiti seats, results of 17 seats was declared and on 16 of these seats, Congress candidates were announced as winners while one seat went to SAD (Badal). In Kotkapura block, the result was declared of all 16 seats. While Congress was declared winner on 14 seats, SAD (B) candidates could bag only two seats.

Out of total 25 Panchayat Samiti seats in Jaito block, the result of 16 seats was declared. While 14 seats went into Congress kitty, Independents were announced winners on two seats. Results of 10 Zila Parishad seats were not announced but Congress was leading on most of these seats, as per sources.

The results of some of the Panchayat Samiti seats were embroiled in controversy on Saturday as the re-counting on two seats led to reversal of the result. While the SAD (B) candidates were shown as winners on two seats in Faridkot block, in re-counting they were shown trailing behind the Congress candidates.

While Rajiv Prashar, District Electorate Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot, denied the allegations of any wrong in the counting and re-counting, Akali leaders of the area alleged that victory on many seats was “doctored as per the wishes of Congress leaders”.
