Cong romps home with major share

The Congress has emerged victorious in five of the 16 Zila Parishad zones, the results of which were declared late Saturday evening. The results of the remaining 11 Zila Parishad zones were awaited at the time of filing of this report.

The Congress bagged a majority of seats in the nine Block Samitis in Bathinda, while the results of 119 out of total 148 Block Samitis seats had been declared. The Congress has won 94 seats, while the SAD won 14 seats, AAP four and Independents have won seven seats in the district.

The Congress has made a clean sweep in the Block Samitis as a majority of the candidates of the Congress were declared winners.

Congress candidates have won all 15 seats in the Phul Block Samiti. Similar results were witnessed in the Rampura Block Samiti, where of the 15 seats, 14 were bagged by the Congress and one was won by an Independent candidate.

The Congress won 10 seats in Nathana block and SAD candidates succeeded in bagging four and AAP candidates won two seats of the total 16 Block Samiti seats. Out of total 15 seats in the Maur block, Congress has won eight, SAD five, AAP one and an Independent candidate has also won one seat.

Of the 20 seats in the Sangat block, 15 seats were won by Congress candidates, while the SAD managed to win only two seats and Independent won three seats.

In Bathinda, the result of 14 seats out of total 15 has been declared, out of which 12 had been won by Congress and an Independent candidate had won one seat. In Goniana, results of seven seats were announced out of total 15, in which five had been won by Congress, AAP one and Independent had bagged one seat.

In Talwandi Sabo block, the result of 11 out of total 22 seats had been declared, in which Congress had won eight and SAD had won three seats. In Bhagta, out of the total 15 seats, results of six seats had been declared and all were won by Congress candidates.

It is pertinent to mention that four Congress candidates had won the elections unanimously without any contest.
