Bathinda, June 11

A commission agent from Rama Mandi died of drug overdose. The Talwandi Sabo police have registered a case against four persons and have arrested three of them.

The accused will be presented in the court on Tuesday. Inspector Jagdish Kumar said the deceased had been identified as Kamal Maheshwari (28), a resident of Rama Mandi.

The police have registered a case against Charanjit Singh, Karmjit Singh, Jagjot Singh and an unidentified person under Section 304 of the IPC and Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act on the statement of the brother of the deceased, Punish Maheshwari.

In the statement given to the police, Punish has stated that they had a commission agent firm in Rama Mandi.

Kamal was addicted to ‘chitta’ and he was even admitted to the drug addiction centre at Malerkotla for treatment, he said.

Karmjit Singh of Talwandi Sabo was also under treatment there and 15 days ago, after completion of their treatment, both returned home.

He said on Sunday morning, Kamal went to Talwandi Sabo for some work and met Karmjit. Charanjit was also there. The trio purchased ‘chitta’ from Jagjot and consumed the drug, but Kamal died of overdose, he added.

Jagdish said after conducting the post-mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members. — TNS
