Tightening its grip on Bathinda and its adjoining areas, the prevailing cold wave further intensified as the minimum temperature dipped to be recorded at 0.8°C today. It is the coldest temperature recorded this season till now.

As per information received from the Agri-Met Department of the PAU’s regional centre in Bathinda, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0.8°C while the maximum temperature was recorded at 19°C. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6°C while the minimum temperature was recorded at 16.6°C. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2°C and the maximum temperature was recorded at 17°C.

The Weather Department stated that the sudden change in the weather had been caused by Western Disturbance.

A fresh spell of snowfall in the Northern Himalayan region and neighbouring areas had caused a change in the weather in Punjab and Delhi, the weather experts said.

As per the forecast released by the department for the region, similar weather will prevail in the region over the next few days. As per the forecast released by the Indian Meteorological department for the region, cold wave will further intensify in the area as the region may also experience fog and mist over the weekend. It also predicted that the region may experience a thunderstorm followed by rain on Monday.

Homeless loses battle against cold

Meanwhile, the cold wave claimed one more life on Thursday. An unidentified person was found lying unconscious on Mall Godam Road last night. After getting information, Constable Gurpal Singh of the GRP reached the spot and called volunteers of an NGO who took him to the Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead. This is the fourth death due to cold wave conditions in the city. A person had died due to cold wave on Wednesday as well.
