The executive members of the Chemists’ Association, Talwandi Sabo, have demanded action against an unidentified person who allegedly circulated a list of chemists stating that they were involved in selling drugs to area residents. The list contained the names of three chemist shops and nine other persons of the area.

The members of the association organised a press conference at the Press Club and briefed media about the matter. They also demanded that the matter be investigated on priority by the authorities concerned and the culprit must be apprehended at the earliest.

Talking to mediapersons, Diwan Chand, president of the association, said, “An unidentified person has circulated a list of chemists who are members of our association and tried to tarnish our image. The message circulated through social networking platform Facebook and instant messaging app Whatsapp stated that these chemists were involved in selling drugs to the area people. We vehemently refute such messages and demand that stern action must be taken against those circulating such false messages.”

Apart from the names of three chemist shops operating in Talwandi Sabo, the list circulated on social media by the person also consisted the names of nine other persons of the area, including shopkeepers, laboratory operator and confectioner.

Diwan Chand added, “It is an attempt to tarnish the image of chemists without any fault of theirs. We have met the Bathinda SSP and registered a complaint in this regard. In our complaint, we have urged the authorities to register an FIR against the unidentified person and locate the culprit circulating false messages by taking assistance of cyber cell. The SSP has given us assurance that he will investigate and take necessary action in the matter.”
