A new cattle pound at Harraipur village will be ready to support animals by January 31, 2016.

The District Animal Welfare Society, Bathinda, is getting the project constructed and next year, around 500 stray animals will be shifted there.

ADC (D) Varinder Kumar Sharma visited the Harraipur cattle pound on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner.

DC Basant Garg said the cattle pound was spread in 15 acres and had a capacity of accommodating over 2,400 animals.

“The cattle pound will not only solve problem of stray cattle but also give shelter to animals. A total 15 acres of land has been earmarked at three places for the project. The construction work has been started in around 8.5 acres of area. The cattle pound is being constructed with the grants received from the government, inputs from the Municipal Corporation Bathinda and donations from philanthropists,” added Garg.

ADC Sharma said an estimated 2,000 stray cattle were there in the city and all of these will be shifted to the cattle pound.

He said the construction work of the boundary wall had been completed. Besides, the construction of shed number 2 is going on.

He added the work would be completed by January 31, 2016, while the work on construction of dispensary and office building had already been completed.

Similarly, proper arrangements have been made to provide power connections for the building.

The cattle pound has been provided a path from Khiali Wala village. Making arrangements for water, two tube wells have been installed and efforts were also being made to provide canal water for project.

He said to increase the green cover, plantation had been done along the boundary wall.
