Two candidates of the CPI (ML) while one of the Bahujan Samaj Party filled their nomination forms today.

Bhupinder Singh, who is contesting for the first time, today filed his affidavit mentioning Rs 7,000 in cash with him while he has no house, bike or even a bi-cycle.

“The cycle on which I came to file the nomination belongs to my father. I have borrowed a bike from my friend for urgent situations. I have been working for the party for the last many years. I am fighting elections for the first time and that too for the Assembly seat. I have passed my Class X and XII examinations under the PSEB and have completed my graduation from Manav Bhaat University, Solan, through distance education programme.”

“If people vote me to power then I would bring corruption to an end and will undertake developmental works in my constituency. I would also focus on schooling education, especially the government schools that need to be upgraded and are facing a shortage of teachers,” he added.

CPI (ML) candidate Surjit Singh from Sardulgarh also filed his nomination today.

CPI (ML) candidate Ranjit Singh has filed his nomination from the Mansa Assembly segment.

He is a sarpanch of Tamkot village, which was honoured on February 2 last year with an award by the Union Ministry of Rural Development as a commendation for the best performance in implementation of the MNREGA scheme.

A single panchayat of CPI (ML) in Punjab, Tamkot panchayat consists of total 10 members, including sarpanch Ranjit Singh.

The village is first in the district to construct an electric crematorium that helped in saving wood (only 70 kg is now used for each funeral instead of 300 kg).

The village panchayat got it constructed with the help of MNREGA workers.

Earlier, the Tamkot panchayat that is divided into nine wards, with a member responsible for the administration of each, had won the national award in 2013-14 for ‘progressive and visionary practices’ and received 5 lakh cash prize from the Union Ministry of Rural Development under its Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme.
