Bathinda, August 22

A 30-minute downpour this afternoon left many areas of the city waterlogged. The Powerhouse road, Sirki Bazaar, Mall Road, GT Road, Veer Colony, Amrik Singh road, Bhatti road, Paras Ram Nagar and other areas witnessed waterlogging.

Surprisingly, areas near Civil Lines, Model Town Phase I did not receive rain. The areas near the Mansa road witnessed drizzle.

The day started on a sunny note but after 1 pm, clouds started hovering and it started raining.

After the spell of rain was over, the sun played hide and seek. The rain brought respite from the humid weather.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.6°C while the minimum was 25.6°C.

“The city may witness light thundershowers in isolated places in the next two–three days. The temperature will continue to hover around the same mark,” said an official of the Meteorological Department.

Gurmeet Singh, a city resident, said the authorities must pull up their socks and should identify spots, which were most affected by waterlogging.

Another resident Purva Kapoor said she was caught unawares today in sudden downpour as she had gone to the market on her Activa scooter.

Rakesh Kumar said the Municipal Corporation had failed to provide any relief to residents as a few minutes of downpour was enough to waterlog city roads.
