Bathinda zone police sports and athletic meet begins

The second Bathinda Zone Police Sports and Athletic Meet-2017 was inaugurated in the multipurpose sports stadium here today.

The two-day event is being organised after 11 years. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mukhwinder Singh Chhina inaugurated the athletic meet. He was accompanied by DC Diparva Lakra, SSP Bathinda Naveen Singla, SSP Fazilka Ketan Patil Balliram, SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh, SSP Muktsar Susheel Kumar, Bathinda ADC Shena Aggarwal and Bathinda SDM Sakshi Sahwney.

Participant from all seven districts of zone — Bathinda, Faridkot, Muktsar, Mansa, Ferozepur, Moga and Fazilka are here to participate in various sports activities. The first event of the first day of athletic meet was 800-metre men’s race. It was followed by the same event in women’s category.

Subsequently, other events like 100 mtr run, 800 mtr run, 400 mtr run, high jump, discus throw, 200 metre run, 1500 mtr run, 4x100 mtr relay, long jump, javelin throw, 400 mtr hurdle, 110 mtr hurdle, 4x400 mtr relay and shot put were organised.

There were four team sports including kabaddi, football, volleyball and basketball.

On the first day, Bathinda retained first position and bagged 19 medals including 8 gold medals, while Muktsar retained second and Moga third position. Chhina said the best teams and participants will represent Bathinda Zone in upcoming Inter Zone Sports meet to be held at the PAP headquarters in Jalandhar in the next month.
