Bathinda, March 25

Candidates have started filing their nomination for the upcoming District Bar Association (DBA) elections that are scheduled to take place on April 5. Three candidates filed their nomination papers for different positions on the first day today.

Rohit Rumana, who was secretary of the DBA from 2016 to 2018, filed his nomination papers for the post of president. Similarly, Seema Sharma filed her nomination for the post of treasurer and Manjinder Singh Brar filed his nomination for the post of vice-president.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Rumana said, “If he is elected as the DBA president, improving relations between the Bar and Bench would be given priority by me. Second, there is a dearth of adequate parking space at the court complex, I would try to resolve it on priority. Moreover, the work of block-B would also be completed.”

Navdeep Jeeda, executive member of the ad-hoc committee for DBA elections, said, “The final date for filing nomination papers is March 27 and till March 28 candidates can withdraw their nominations. The final list of candidates who would be in the fray would be displayed on March 29.”

Jeeda added, “To ensure fair and transparent elections, the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council has formed an ad-hoc committee. We have asked all the practising lawyers to submit their affidavit stating that they will be casting their vote in the polls. The aim is to ensure that only genuine voters/lawyers cast their votes. We are in the process of preparing the final list of eligible voters, so lawyers are requested to submit their affidavits on or before March 27. The final list of voters who can cast their vote in the elections would be displayed on March 30.”
