Bathinda, October 13

The Bangla Cultural Society is all geared up for its first grand Durga Puja Celebrations in Bathinda.

UTSAV Bangla Cultural Society, a group born out of the enthusiasm of a few Bengali families working at various institutions here to promote the traditional Bengali culture and heritage. The group endeavours to present a glimpse of ‘Sonar Bangla’ in Bathinda, the agrarian heartland of Punjab.

The group in its maiden attempt is all set to recreate magic and fervour of the festive mood of Durga Puja from October 15 to 19 at Ashoka Resorts, Model Town, Phase 3, in the city.

Starting from the creation of the idol by master craftsmen from Bengal Adhikary, now stationed in Chandigarh, to the rendering of music and dance by members of UTSAV as well as by local talents will add fervour to the celebrations. To add flavour to the festivity, typical Bengali ‘bhog’ will be served to visitors. Reverberating sound of the ‘Dhaki’ accompanied by ‘Dhunoochinaach’ during the evenings will take forward the festivity to completeness.

Finally, ‘SindoorUtsav’, which marks the culmination of the festival, will be celebrated by women in a traditional Bengali way to bid adieu to the Goddess. The involvement, emotional attachment and total participation for sure will be the key to take forward the festival year after year with the same fervour.

Durga Puja is more than a puja. Durga Puja, also referred to as Durgotsava or Sharadotsav, is an annual Hindu festival in South Asia that celebrates the worship of the Hindu goddess Durga.
