Balwant Gargi remembered on World Theatre Day

Baba Farid College (BFC), Bathinda, organised a seminar on Punjabi language dramatist and novelist Balwant Gargi on the occasion of World Theatre Day. 

Suman Kumar, deputy secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, was the chief guest of the event. 

Kumar said, “Balwant Gargi’s name is synonymous with Punjabi theatre and his work elevated Punjabi theatre, language and culture at the international platform.” 

Kiran Bhatnagar, former deputy secretary, Sangeet Academy, Delhi, attended the seminar as the keynote speaker. 

Renowned theatre artist Rakesh Bhardwaj was also present on the occasion. He said theater discards disparity and helps us break the shackles of traditions.

To mark the day, the BFC also organised inter-college theatre competitions. In the mimicry competition, Sukhdeep Vashisht and Dilpreet Singh bagged the first and second positions, respectively. 

In the mono-acting competition, Manpreet Singh bagged the first position, Ashamandeep Singh got the second position and Ishan Singh won the third prize. 

In the skit competition, Ashamandep Singh and team got the first position; Manpreet Singh and team bagged the second position; and Jivanjot Singh and team stood third.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chairman, Baba Farid Group of Institutions, congratulated the Sangeet Akademi, Delhi, and BFC for organising a seminar in the memory of Balwant Gargi.
