Bathinda, November 22

A baby girl was found in the ‘panghura’ (cradle) at Mahant Gurbanta Dass School for Deaf and Dumb on the Goniana road on Wednesday.

With this, the number of children left in the cradle since its inception has reached 50. A team of doctors at the Civil Hospital examined the infant and stated that she was healthy.

Dr Manita Bansal, who examined the baby, said she was five-six-day-old and weighed around 2.2 kg.

She added that the child was suffering from mild jaundice and would be given phototherapy for a day or two.

With an aim to save infants from being left at odd places, the ‘phangura’ was introduced on January 1, 2008.

Cradles were installed in front of the Red Cross Society buildings in Amritsar, Bathinda and Ludhiana. In Bathinda, the cradle was installed on February 28, 2009.
