Bathinda, October 21

Members of Unemployed Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Pass B Ed Teachers’ Union protested against the district administration and ruling government for failing to provide them regular jobs at Ambedkar Park on Sunday.

The protesting teachers raised slogans and demanded that the government must provide them regular jobs at the earliest.

They warned that if the government did not relent and fulfilled their demands, they would be forced to intensify their stir.

As the procession of protesters moved from Ambedkar Park to carry out a protest rally and submit a memorandum of demands at Finance Minister Manpreet Badal’s office near multi-purpose stadium, police personnel stopped them there.

Later, the protesters again sat in the park to continue to the protest. After some time, Bhupinder Singh, personal assistant of the Finance Minister, reached the protest venue to take the MoD.

Balkar Singh, president of the union, said, “In continuation of our protest against the state government for not providing jobs to the B Ed TET-qualified teachers, we have decided to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on October 28.”

Singh added, “There are a number of posts lying vacant in government schools for long and delaying the appointment of teachers in these schools means that students studying there would be deprived of quality education. We have already given several reminders to the government and if the latter does not take a serious note of the matter then we will intensify our protest soon.”
