Sikh organisations today gave an ultimatum to the police to arrest the accused in a ‘gutka’ sacrilege incident by May 26. The incident was reported yesterday at Dhan Singhthana village in the district.

Leaders of various Sikh organisations today gathered at a gurdwara and discussed the issue.

Dal Khalsa leader Baba Hardeep Singh, Gurusar Mehraj, Gurbinder Singh, Panthak Sewa Lehar’s Satnam Singh, SAD (A) leader Manjit Singh Seera, Manjit Singh Khalsa, Gurjant Singh and others today submitted a memorandum to the SHO, Kotfatta police station.

They stated in the memorandum that if the police fail to arrest the accused by May 26 till 11 am, Sikh organisations would search for the accused on their own. They also said the police would be responsible for any untoward incident.

Malkit Singh saw the torn pages of a “gutka” near the main gate of the gurdwara on Sunday morning. He informed granthi Simranjit Singh, who in turn, informed the police. A case under Section 295 of the IPC was registered against unidentified persons on the basis of Simranjit’s statement. — TNS
