Couple dies after inhaling gas from “angithi”

BATHINDA: A couple died last night after inhaling poisonous gas emanating from burning coal in an ‘angithi’ (fireplace) at Mahant Gurbanta Das Nursing College in Anoop Nagar.

A couple died last night after inhaling poisonous gas emanating from burning coal in an ‘angithi’ (fireplace) at Mahant Gurbanta Das Nursing College in Anoop Nagar.

After getting the information, officials from the Vardhman police post reached the spot. After checking the spot, the police along with the workers of the local NGO Sahara Jan Sewa took the bodies to the Civil Hospital.

As per the information, Sandeep Kumar (22), a resident of Malout and his wife Neha (20), got married six months ago. After marriage, they were living at Gurbanta Dass Nursing College as Sandeep Kumar was working there as a sweeper.

The couple used to stay at a room in the hostel. Last night, both were sleeping after igniting coal in an ‘angithi’.

This morning till 11 am, both did not came out of their room. The other sweeper checked Sandeep’s room which was closed from the inside. He then informed the college authorities.

According to the police, relatives of Sandeep reached the college but no one from his family had come so far, due to which the postmortem could not be conducted today.
