Ahead of I-Day, security beefed up at rly station

BATHINDA: In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the Punjab Police, the Government Railway Police (GRP), along with Railway Police Force (RPF), on Saturday carried out a joint search operation at the railway station here.

In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the Punjab Police, the Government Railway Police (GRP), along with Railway Police Force (RPF), on Saturday carried out a joint search operation at the railway station here.

A dog squad was pressed into service to identify suspicious elements.

The luggage of passengers was checked at all platforms of the railway station.

Even the DSP, Romana, checked a train which was standing at the platform.

Policemen have been asked to keep a tab on passengers and check their identity cards to ensure safety and security at the city railway station, he added.

He further said they would try to deploy at least two cops on each platform and the entry/exit points of the railway station to ensure safety and security of passengers.

DSP Gurjeet Singh Romana said joint teams conducted a search operation as a security measure ahead of Independence Day and it would be done regularly till the celebrations were concluded.

He said, “We have intensified security in the city and also started a search drive in different parts of the city to ensure safety and security ahead of the Independence Day.”
