Admn provides debt relief to 3,700 farmers in Barnala

Under the debt waiver scheme, the Barnala administration on Friday started the process of providing relief to 3,722 farmers. The administration will provide a relief of Rs 17.44 crore while on Friday during a function, some of the 3,722 farmers were given debt relief by issuing them certificates while the remaining would be covered in a phased manner.

The DC was accompanied by former MLAs Kewal Singh Dhillon, Harchand Kaur Ghanauri, Joginder Singh Panjgarain and other leaders.

Addressing a gathering, MLAs appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Government in waiving off the debt of farmers and assured that debt of all eligible farmers would be waived in a phased manner.

The DC said today’s function was organised by the Cooperative Department. He said the lists containing details of all these farmers would also be displayed at the notice boards in Cooperative Societies, Cooperative Banks as well as in some other places.

“During the first phase, 10,129 eligible farmers of Barnala district have already been given a debt relief of Rs 38 crore. If the name of any eligible farmer is left out from this list, he could bring it to the notice of their respective SDM and submit an application,” said the DC.

The DC appealed to farmers to not burn wheat/paddy straw in their fields as it leads to pollution. SSP Harjit Singh, ADC Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Mankanwal Singh Chahal, MD Cooperative Bank Harvinder Singh Dhillon, Deputy Registrar Paramjit Singh, DDPO Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Chief Agriculture Officer Rachhpal Singh Khosa also attended the function.
