Bathinda, August 12

Miffed over drug addiction of their 20-year-old youth, his parents from Rampura block have approached a city-based NGO to seek its help for their son’s treatment.

According to his parents, the youth is hooked to heroin and tramadol tablets for over a year and to buy expensive drugs, he has even sold valuables, including gold ornaments, of the house.

NGO members said his parents were deeply perturbed over their son’s addiction and when they try to stop him, he threatens to commit suicide. They said the youth even borrowed money from his acquaintances.

The NGO members added that after conducting medical tests, it was confirmed that the addict was also HIV and Hepatitis-C positive.

Vijay Goyal, president of Sahara Jan Sewa, said, “Executive members pf the NGO have given assurance to the parents that they will bear the cost of treatment. Owing to a social stigma, the parents of the addict has demanded secrecy about the identity and treatment details.” — TNS
