4-lane to Chandigarh likely by July end

The work on the Bathinda-Chandigarh four-laning project is likely to be completed by July end.

The work of this project has been undertaken by the Public Works Department in five phases at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore.

As much as 90 per cent work under the PWD Bathinda zone of laying 41-km road from Bathinda to Tapa has been completed and the remaining work of building flyovers over it is expected to be over by July.

The department has also set July 28 as the deadline for completion of this project.

The foundation stone of the project was laid on January 22, 2015.

The department has to lay eight flyovers in the 41-km stretch.

The first flyover is to come up at Rose Garden Chowk, second at Bibiwala Chowk, three flyovers in the army area, two flyovers at Bhucho Chowk and one at Rampura Chowk.

One under-bridge is being laid in the army area, which will be used only by army officials.

On this stretch of 41 km, the department has planned to spend Rs 620 crore.

The land near Lehrabega village has not been acquired for the toll plaza to be set there, due to which there can be delay in the project. Area around 4 km is to be acquired for the toll plaza.

Under the project, Patiala by-pass four lane is to come up at a cost of Rs 279 crore, Patiala to Sangrur four lane at Rs 486 crore, Sangrur to Dhanula by-pass at Rs 319 crore, Sangrur to Tapa four lane at Rs 483 crore and Tapa to Bathinda four lane at Rs 620 crore.

A PWD official said the work on the Bathinda-Chandigarh four-laning project is going on fast pace and is expected to be completed by July end.

He said a service lane had also been constructed to facilitate people.
