4 held with 40 kg of poppy husk

Four persons have been arrested with 40 kg of poppy husk from Gobindpura village. The accused have been identified as Bagga Singh, Manpreet Singh, Satpal Singh and Gurpreet Singh, all residents of Gobindpura village.

The police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had brought the poppy husk from Jaipur in a bus and were planning to sell it in the district in the coming days.

A case under Section 15 (punishment for contravention in relation to poppy straw) of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

The accused were distributing cartons containing poppy husk among themselves near the canal area at Gobindpura village when a police team on patrolling spotted them.

After seeing the police team, the accused tried to flee the spot, but it arrested them.

Sub-Inspector Gurinder Singh, posted at the Cantonment police station said, “The accused had bought the poppy husk for Rs 2,500 per kg from Jaipur, Rajasthan, and were planning to re-sell it here for Rs 4,000 per kg.”— TNS
