Bathinda, November 10

Tall claims by the district health department to deal with dengue in the district seem to have fallen flat.

As per the Civil Hospital record, the district epidemiologist had received 853 samples of suspected cases, of which 361 have tested positive. Moreover, the number of dengue cases at the Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital has surpassed the previous year tally.

It clearly shows the lack of seriousness with which government officials had approached to deal with dengue in the district.

Meanwhile, District Epidemiologist Dr Rajpal Singh said, “It is not only the health department’s duty to deal with dengue. Moreover, behind a surge in the number of dengue patients, people are equally responsible for this.”

Many a time, we went to residential areas and challaned a number of city residents for not changing air cooler water and found larvae of aedes aegypti (mosquito that spreads dengue), he added.

He further said as the temperature had started decreasing, it would also decrease the number of dengue cases in the district.
