3-day training programme concludes

Under the Padho Punjab Padhao Punjab project of the state government, the district Education Department organsied a three-day training programme for 30 teachers, who were promoted from the ETT (primary teacher) to the master cadre — high school and senior secondary school teachers — at MSD Senior Secondary School near Hanuman Chowk. The programme culminated on Friday. 

The ETT teachers were trained in subjects such as English and social studies to facilitate their smooth transition from the primary level to the secondary level. 

The objective of the training programme was to make them familiar with the syllabus of high and secondary schools and ensure that they further teach students in an effective manner.

Bal Krishan Aggarwal, district co-ordinator for teachers’ training, said, “These teachers are engaged in different activities to make the learning process easier and effective. For English, we have started from a very basic level. Teachers who are verse with alphabets were told about different words and sentences in a step-by-step manner before telling them about comprehensions.”

“To increase their level of teaching and making the transition from primary to secondary schools an easy affair, we have engaged these teachers in different activities and taught them how they teach students well. During the training programme, teachers were also asked to clear their doubts. They were taught how they could counter problems,” Aggarwal added.

Teachers were also familiarised with information and communication technologies (ICTs), use of Internet and multimedia. Besides English vocabulary, a group and individual activities were organised to sharpen reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
