3 cops suspended for ‘giving VIP treatment’ to accused

BATHINDA: Three policemen have been suspended for allegedly giving VIP treatment to two persons, who are accused in an assault case, at the Talwandi Sabo police station. Notably, the accused were booked around a month ago and were arrested four days ago.

Three policemen have been suspended for allegedly giving VIP treatment to two persons, who are accused in an assault case, at the Talwandi Sabo police station. Notably, the accused were booked around a month ago and were arrested four days ago.

According to sources in the Police Department, the complainant in the case had brought the matter to the notice of the SHO of the Talwandi Sabo police station and the Bathinda SSP around, following which an inquiry was marked to probe the matter.

The sources added the accused were brought to the police station and were “given VIP treatment”. According to the complainant, food and beverages were served to them in a separate room inside the police station.  

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Sunil Kumar, SHO, Talwandi Sabo police station,  said, “After conducting an preliminary inquiry, we have submitted a report to the SSP following which three police personnel were suspended. The police personnel did not follow the procedure and served food to the accused in a separate room inside the police station. Since, the inquiry into the matter is on, the suspension period will be decided later.”

SSP Nanak Singh said, “On the basis of the inquiry report, we have suspended two ASIs — Gurdas Singh and Dharmvir Singh — and Kuldeep Singh, who was posted at the Talwandi Sabo as Munshi.”
