Malout, June 24

The Kabarwala police on Sunday booked three persons after a youth, who got injured in a brawl at Alamwala village here about 10 days ago, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The police took the action when the family of deceased Surjit Singh, 28, a farm labourer, refused to get the post-mortem conducted and demanded action against the accused.

Later, the post-mortem was conducted after registration of a case against three persons.

Sources said Surjit, along with two others, was going to work in paddy fields on June 15, but when they were crossing the house of Tarsem Singh in the village, the latter, along with some others, attacked them.

Sources added that both groups had earlier too clashed. “The two youths, who were involved in the clash, managed to run away, but Surjit got critically injured. He was taken to the community health centre in the village, where he passed away,” said sources.

The police have now booked Tarsem, his son Maninder and Sunny of Alamwala village, and have claimed that efforts are being made to arrest them.
