19-yr-old youth undergoing de-addiction kills self

A 19-year-old youth admitted to a drug addiction centre located at Growth Centre on the Mansa road committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan.

The Investigating officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjit Singh, said the deceased had been identified as Sanju, a resident of Amarpura Basti. He was admitted to the drug de-addiction centre on Tuesday night.

He was lodged with other patients in a hall. However, on Wednesday afternoon, he went to another vacant room and locked it from inside.

He hanged himself from a fan using a bed-sheet. When he did not return to the hall, other youths started searching for him.

The lock of the room was broken and Sanju was found hanging.

They immediately informed the staff of the centre and the police also reached the spot. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital.
