A youth sustained a bullet injury on his head while his brother got seriously injured in a murderous assault in Faizpura here late on Monday evening. The police booked have six persons while no arrest has been made so far.

The victims were identified as Vishal Sharma and Rakesh Kumar. Vishal is under treatment at Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Vallah. According to the police, Vishal suffered a splinter injury.

Among those booked are Mann of Navi Abadi, Sharan, Tidda and Bhilla of Karampura and two unknown persons. A case under Sections 307, 506, 148, 149 of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against them. They are absconding since the incident, said investigating officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar.

Ramesh Kumar, father of the victim, stated to the police that his son Rakesh Kumar, along with his friends, was present in the street during New Year celebrations when the accused suddenly turned up at around 11.30 pm on different bikes and started beating him up, leaving him injured. While they fled away from the spot, he took his son to a private hospital for treatment and later returned home. He said when they came, Mahant Mahi (a transgender) turned up to know the well-being of Rakesh.

He said the accused also returned and started misbehaving with Mahant. He said Sharan took out a pistol and fired three gunshots in the air. The fourth gunshot was aimed towards Vishal, which hit him on his head. The accused also attacked him with bricks. He started profusely bleeding following which they rushed him to the Vallah hospital where his condition is stated to be serious.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Raj Kumar said raids were on at the suspected hideouts of the accused.
