Amritsar, August 16

The Lopoke police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Kohali village.

The victim told the police that she was alone at home when the accused came and committed the crime.

The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, of the same village.

A case under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children Sexual Offence Act has been registered against the accused.

The victim told the police that her mother, who works as domestic help, had gone to her workplace.

The girl said on Monday, the accused asked about her mother and when he came to know that her mother was not present, he entered the house and bolted the door from inside.

She alleged that the accused later raped her and before fleeing away, he threatened to kill her in case she would raise the alarm or tell anyone about it.

The victim narrated the entire incident before her mother.

Police officer Balwinder Kaur, who is investigating the matter, said the accused had been arrested and medical examination of the girl had been conducted.
