Year-long plan to celebrate 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar

AMRITSAR: Celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Nehru Youth Association in the district organized a youth convention at the art gallery.

Celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Nehru Youth Association in the district organized a youth convention at the art gallery. Attended by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla, the programme saw participation of over 600 youngsters from youth clubs across 82 villages in the district.

Sampla addressed the convention and shared the life and vision of Dr Ambedkar. “He gave a new direction to our country by drafting our Constitution. We today enjoy the honour of being the world’s largest democracy. He fought for the equal rights of those ostracized by society and spread awareness against caste discrimination. He is a source of inspiration for the youngsters and people should adopt his principles to work with dedication towards the betterment of the country,” he said. He also flagged off a special Run for National Unity that culmninated at Guru Nanak Stadium and distributed sports kits to children from the rural youth clubs.

Samson Masih, district youth coordinator, Nehru District Youth Association, said the organization has been announced as the nodal agency to implement the year-long programme initiated under the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr Ambedkar. “Awareness drives, motivational programmes and sports events will be held across the youth clubs in villages. We have 500 youth clubs functioning with our collaboration and youth conventions will be held to inspire youngsters and educate them about Dr Ambedkar’s lifestyle,” he said.

A special exhibition on the life of Dr Ambedkar was also held at the art gallery. The process of drafting the Constitution was also explained in detail by volunteers for the youngsters. The events will also focus on national unity.
