Women assaulted, 14 booked

Around 14 persons have been booked in two cases for allegedly assaulting and outraging the modesty of women.

In the first case, a 36-year old woman in Mehta village complained to the police that one Lakhbir Singh along with his accomplices Rajbir and Angrej tore her clothes on May 15. She said she along with her family had gone to pay obeisance at Baba Bakala Sahib when her uncle phoned her to inform that Lakhbir Singh had barged into the house to take away their tractor-trailer. When they reached, the accused attacked the family. She alleged that they scuffled with her and also tore her clothes before taking away her tractor-trailer. She said that her family had a land dispute with the accused.

The Mehta police have registered a case under Sections 323, 454, 354, 380, 506 and 34 of the IPC against Rajbir Singh, his brothers Angrej Singh and Lakhbir Singh, Gurpreet Singh, all residents of Mehta Chowk. No arrest has been made so far.

In another incident at Udonangal village, a widow alleged that around 10 persons, with whom she had land dispute, entered her house and thrashed her. She alleged that one of the accused, Harjit Singh, got naked before her and made unacceptable gestures. They ransacked her house and fled, she said.

Among those booked include Harjit’s wife Rajinder Kaur, Karanjit Singh, Rajinder Singh, Samnit Singh, Balbir Singh, Shamsher Singh and Rajinder Singh, all residents of Udonangal village. A case under Sections 453, 354, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered. No arrest has been made so far.
