A married woman Manpreet Kaur (28) committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Naushehra Kalan village here on Wednesday.
The police have booked three persons, including her husband, in this regard.
Deceased’s father Jagir Singh told the police that Manpreet was married to Mandeep Singh of Naushehra Kalan village around 10 year ago. Jagir said her husband and his family members used to harass her daughter and this had become a bone of contention between the couple. He said Manpreet told him that Mandeep had illicit relations with some other woman.
He said many times, members of the two families intervened and tried to strike a compromise.
He said, “On Monday, Manpreet called me and said they had a dispute. On Tuesday, her in-laws told second son-in-law Manoj, a resident of Rajasansi, that Manpreet had consumed some poisonous substance and she was admitted to a private hospital. I, along with my family members, reached the hospital, where she succumbed on Wednesday.”
On his statement, a case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against Manpreet’s husband Mandeep Singh, his brother Gullu and his wife.
Tarlok Singh, investigating officer, said the police had arrested Mandeep on Thursday evening and he would be produced in the court on Friday.
