Amritsar, January 16

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman who was electrocuted in Mardi Khurd village, falling under Majitha police station, here on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kulwant Kaur (51). Her uncle Baldev Singh, a resident of Saidpur village, has accused her daughter-in-law and kin of murdering her. On the basis of a complaint filed by him, the police have booked four persons for murder.

Sukhraj Singh, SHO, Majitha police station, said the case was filed on the written complaint of Baldev Singh. Further investigation is under way. The exact cause of her death will be ascertained after receiving the autopsy report. The body’s postmortem was conducted on Wednesday. The body will be handed over to the family on the orders of the subdivisional magistrate, he said.

Baldev Singh stated to the police that the deceased’s son Germanjit Singh was married to Satinderjit Kaur. He said after the death of Kulwant’s husband Lakhbir Singh, there was a property dispute within the family. He said he came to know that Germanjit had given Kulwant Rs 10,000, out of the money he received from one to whom he had leased out the family’s agricultural land. Due to this, Satinderjit got angry and had a spat with her husband. She is also alleged to have hurled abuses at her mother-in-law Kulwant Kaur.

According to Baldev Singh, he came to know on Tuesday that Kulwant Kaur had died of electrocution. He suspected that Satinderjit along with her relatives had murdered her.

Sukhraj said that on the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC against Satinderjit Kaur, Avtar Singh, his son Bikramjit Singh and Shally of Ballowali village, Gurdaspur. He said no arrest was made as the investigation was still on its initial stage.
