Security personnel at the Amritsar Central Jail arrested a woman for allegedly trying to take heroin to two jail inmates. She had concealed heroin in her heels. Jail staff grew suspicious and frisked her only to find heroin concealed in a special cavity of her heels.

The accused has been identified as Romi Kaur of Sadli village in Jandiala. She had come to meet two jail inmates — Gurpartap Singh and Harpartap Singh, alias Happy, both residents of Sandhu Colony, Majitha road, said Sukhdev Singh, Assistant Superintendent of the Central Jail. Both are notorious drug peddlers. They were arrested by a team of the Special Task Force in April this year, it has been learnt.

According to sources in the jail, the two used to smuggle the contraband at the behest of notorious gangsters. The jail authorities also confiscated a mobile phone from Gurpartap. He used to contact the woman through it and demand heroin. On Thursday, Romi came to meet the duo while claiming to be their relative.

A case under Sections 21, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act and Section 42 of the Prisons Act was registered against her and the two jail inmates.
