Amritsar, March 25

The city police have arrested a woman, identified as Mannat, alias Rajbir Kaur, of Sham Nagar village for allegedly possessing 950 intoxicating tablets. Investigating officer Kulwant Singh said that she was arrested from 88-feet road following a tip-off. She was coming from Mustafabad side when a police party intercepted her. Riding a scooter, she threw a polybag upon seeing the cops. During search, the police found intoxicants in the bag.

The investigating officer said it was for the first time that she had been arrested with drugs. Earlier, she was caught for allegedly murdering her sister-in-law. She was lodged in the Kapurthala jail where she came in contact with another woman who lured her to sell drugs. She came out of the jail on bail over six months ago. She used to get drugs from a youth, Rahul, who is known to the woman lodged in the Kapurthala jail, said Kulwant Singh.

He said a preliminary probe found that she used to sell heroin mixed with intoxicants, making it a deadly combination. He said the police were trying to ascertain the source of the heroin and intoxicants during her interrogation.

She was produced in a court and brought on three-day police remand. Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act have been slapped and further interrogation is under way, the police said.
