Amritsar, November 20

Under the ambitious Amritsar Smart City Project, the facility of Wi-Fi will be provided on the route of Heritage walk leading to the Golden Temple. It is expected that the facility will be provided in the next two months.

A tender for the project has been floated after releasing the work order.

The process will take two months and it will be carried out by a selected company, which will provide the facility for next four years.

RailTel is already providing the free Wi-Fi facility at the city railway station in association with Google.

Railwire Wi-Fi is available for a user who has an active mobile connection on a smartphone.

In order to meet the increasing demand for free Wi-Fi hotspots, the administration has planned to provide the public Wi-Fi facility at a key location of the city— The Heritage walk area of the Golden Temple.

Before its implementation, the selected service provider is expected to conduct a comprehensive survey of the identified location. On the basis of the survey, the Wi-Fi setup will be designed at the location to accommodate the users’ bandwidth needs and requirements.

Major objectives of the Wi-Fi facility at the Amritsar Heritage walk are to provide visitors and residents with easy access to information and an option to access the Internet free of cost via public hotspots.

It will help the government to lead towards digitalization and reduce the cost of the public administration.

Installation, testing, commissioning of all hardware (IT and Non-IT) and software, inclusive of cables and all applicable accessories, are required.

As the footfall is massive in the Heritage walk area of approximately 800 meters (Annexure – III City Wi-Fi Locations on Map), there may be higher attenuation due to the gathering of people at a place.

The service provider will plan accordingly to provide signals better than -65 dBM at every place in the range of access points even when crowd is more at a place where Wi-Fi Solution is expected to handle approximately 3,000 concurrent users. For this, there will be a toll-free number to address complaints.

The ASCL will approve an advertisement strategy.
