Amritsar, May 18

Water supply has been suspended at Nehru Shopping Complex, as the tube well got dysfunctional again after three weeks of repair. Shopkeepers and owners of various offices in the complex have been deprived of water supply for the past three days. The shopkeepers in the Improvement Trust’s shopping complex are a harried lot, as they complained that the tube well goes out of order every now and then.

Ironically, the officials concerned of the Improvement Trust were not aware about the status of the tube well. The trust hired a contractor to take care of the tube wells in its buildings and shopping complexes.

According to information, the motors of the pumps are years old and these have outlived their lives. Now, the contractor repairs the motor after some time. This practice leads to inconvenience to the shopkeepers. “We have to buy potable water. Toilets stink after the disruption of water supply. The Improvement Trust should fix the problem,” said a shopkeeper.

Satinderjit Singh, Superintending Engineer of the Improvement Trust, said, “I am not aware of the issue. If there is a problem in the motor, we will replace the motor soon”.
