In a special cultural event on the eve of Independence Day celebrations a Pakistani folk artiste Khadim Hussain Warsi presented his famous ‘Heer’ at the art gallery here today. The programme was organized by Indian Academy of Fine Arts (IAFA)
Warsi, a poet and singer, known to spread writings and teachings of Waris Shah, narrated various verses from the saint’s kalaam (composition), while Amjad Hussain played the flute.
He also attended the Hind Pak Dosti Manch’s candle light vigil at the Wagah boder later in the evening. He said the performance was dedicated to the message of love and peace, which seemed possible only when people opened their hearts to each other.
“I have been coming to India every year for the past decade and never found any difference on each side of the fence. The only difference is that the people in India love us a bit more,” he added.
Besides Waris Shah’s ‘Heer’, Hussain mesmerised the audience with other renditions inspired from his teachings. He said, “Waris Shah believed in the power of love. His teachings are significant as they encourage a person to love rather than hate, support peace than bring war, which is quite relevant in every aspect.”
