Vipul Mehta, who shot to fame by winning “Indian Idol 6”, has made his playback debut with the upcoming Bollywood film “Wedding Pulaav”. Calling it his biggest achievement, Vipul’s single “Ishq Da Panga” is already out. The film is set to release on October 16.

“I will like to dedicate this song to my father and my family of well wishers. I am thankful to music directors Salim Sulaiman for giving me my first playback song and having faith in me,” he said.

Vipul was selected as the winner of the reality TV show “Indian Idol 6” in 2012. After then, he never looked back. Following his win, he released his debut album “Hello Namaste Sat Sri Akal” and later his debut single “Rowaan Mein”, which was well received. He is currently working on another single “Rubaroo”, which will be out soon. He composed and sang a version of “Vande Mataram” and released it this year, incorporating the voice of his guruji, legendary Ustad Maqbool Husain Khan.

But playback singing was his ultimate goal. He said, “It’s the same for every aspiring singer, to do playback as it gives you a chance to experiment and show your musical versatility. I have been doing live concerts with Salim-Sulaiman before they gave me my first break.” He has also performed live at Coke Studio.

He is a big fan of live performances as well. He says, “They are energetic, fun and exciting. Live performance tests your abilities and talent to the limits as it is not easy to sing and keep the audience engaged for hours without faltering on your notes.” He is now confident that the big Bollywood break will open up possibilities for him.
