Protesting the transfer of a teacher, residents locked up Government Elementary School at Cheema Bath village here on Monday.
The villagers were unhappy due to the transfer of Amandeep Singh.
On Monday, teachers of Government Elementary School were forced to take classes in the open due to the protest by the villagers.
Amandeep has been transferred to a school situated in Attari.
Jasbir Singh, president of the Bhagwan Valmiki Sangrash Dal, Punjab, said, “If the government does not take action, we will hold a protest and block the national highway on July 26.”
Residents submitted a memorandum to Block District Education Officer, Rayya 1, Balkar Singh Muchchal in this regard.
District Elementary Officer Shishupal Kaushal said, “The teacher had not applied for transfer. He might have been transferred by mistake. The matter will be taken up with higher authorities.”
MLA Santokh Singh Baliapur could not been contacted despite repeated attempts.
