Urge for learning draws children to summer camps

City youngsters are making the most of their summer vacation by taking part in activities, such as horse riding, cooking, painting, and acting among others. Enthusiastic children are keen on utilising their time wisely.

Rubina Singh, who runs Creative Idea, feels that such activities provide a platform to youngsters to indulge in productive work during the summer vacation. She says, “I have been teaching youngsters in painting, mural and using waste to create different things. There is a certain level of excitement among youngsters to learn something new, especially creative things.”

Banisha Sachdeva, a student at Creative Idea, who made a painting out of a newspaper, said, “I have been coming here for some time now. It is a good way to refresh oneself. ” An activity which is attracting the young minds most is horse riding taught at Royal Horse Driving School near the Gumtala bypass.

The kids are taught by professionals for Rs 6,000.

Zorawar Dhillon, owner of the horse riding school, said, “With the onset of summer vacation, students and youngsters have come forward to learn horse riding. We have participants from the age of six to 20. We have a retired Army personnel to teach them.”

Prominent theatre artiste Kewal Dhaliwal is also organising a workshop at Virsa Vihar for kids. “It is an acting-cum-workshop for kids from the age group of six to 12,” he says.

“I do not want to waste my time, so I thought of joining short classes to learn cooking and guitar. There is so much on my list,” said Sanyam, a Class X student.

Besides, their parents too are happy as their children are learning something new. Reena Sharma, a city resident, said, “I am very happy that both of my kids are using their time to learn painting and cooking. Instead of sitting idle at home, they are doing something.”
