UP couple nabbed for robbing devotees

The Amritsar police today claimed to have arrested the couple who allegedly drugged and robbed an Indore couple who came to the holy city to pay obeisance at Golden Temple.

They were identified as Adesh Deswal (30) and his wife Anjali (28), both residents of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh.

The victims, identified as Kailash Chander and his wife Mohini, told the police that they came to Dera Beas on October 13 where they met with a couple who had two children. The couple befriended them, seeking help and claiming that someone took away their luggage. On October 19, both families came to Golden Temple and went to have tea in the evening at the Langar Hall. The accused brought tea for them. After drinking it, Kailash and his wife fell unconscious. When they regained consciousness, they found themselves at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The victims said the accused took away their gold chain, gold ring, a mangal sutra, gold ear-rings and Rs 7,000 from Chander’s wallet.

Narinder Singh, ACP, Central, said the accused had also robbed an elderly couple on October 10 and later three women in Dera Beas on October 30. They were identified with the help of the CCTV footage.
