Amritsar, April 20

Two youths sustained serious injuries when a group of persons attacked them on Friday.

Victims Sharanjit Singh of Singhpura village and Yadwinder Singh of Taharpur village have been admitted to Sri Guru Ramdass Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Vallah. Their condition is stated to be out of danger. An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident.

The accused have been identified as Ravinder Singh of Bagga village, Amritpal Singh of Boparai village and Davinder Singh of Mattewal and three unknown persons.

Sharanjit told the police that he along with Yadwinder had boarded a bus from Dadduana village bus stop for Amritsar for paying obeisance at Golden Temple. Amritpal and his accomplices were already in the bus.

The bus had hardly covered a kilometre when the accused asked the driver to stop the bus. “They attacked Yadwinder with iron rods and blunt weapons, leaving him injured. When I tried to save him, the assailants thrashed me as well,” Sharanjit said. Later they fled the scene leaving them in a pool of blood.

Harsandeeep Singh, SHO, Jandiala police station, said the two groups had an old enmity. “Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused who are at large,” he said.

A case under Sections 307, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against them.
