Two unidentified youths decamped with gold rings worth Rs 6 lakh from a jewellery shop in broad daylight at Ajnala here on Wednesday. The police have started investigation into the incident and are scrutinising CCTV cameras in the area.

Pawan Rana, owner of the jewellery shop, told the police that around 11 am he was present at his shop when a youth came at the shop and asked him to show some gold rings. He said as he was showing the rings from his bag, the accused pushed him and took away the bag. 

His another accomplice was standing outside the shop. He said it contained gold rings weighing around 180 gm worth Rs 6 lakh. He said before he could raise the alarm, the accused fled the spot.

DSP, Ajnala, Harpreet Singh said they were investigating the incident. “Police teams were checking footage of CCTVs installed in the area to verify the claims of the jeweller. A case is being registered,” he said.

A local BJP leader said criminals did not have any fear of the law. The jewellery shop was located just a few metres away from the police chowki.
