Amritsar, October 12

Two units manufacturing bread and cream roles were raided by health officials here on Friday. Bijnour Bakery, Chabal Road, and Tanveer Bakery, Gali Kot Khalsa, were sealed due to poor hygiene on their premises. A health official stated that workers were not following guidelines, and their equipment were unhygienic. The units were being run in residential areas without FSSAI licence.

Fungi were seen in bands (a piece of slightly-sweetened bread) and cream roles. Very low quality ingredients, like ghee maida and cherry, were being used in processing process. After taking nine samples of band, cream roles, ghee, maida and salt from both the bakeries, as many as 15,000 bands, 2,000 fans (a type of snack) and 2,500 cream roles were destroyed and five quintal of maida, one quintal of sugar and the machinery were seized.
