TV brings fame, says city-based actor

Going places, Amritsar-based young actor Rohan Mehra is soon going to enter as new lead on Star Plus’s popular show “Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai”. Rohan will play the role of lead pair’s son after the show takes a leap and hence a central character of the storyline. Rohan is excited to be the new face on the television. “I have just returned after shooting for the show in Cape Town, South Africa. I will be one of the actors to take the story ahead as new generation characters come into picture,” he said. Rohan also had been part of two Bollywood projects before his television debut with another popular show “Bade ache lagte hain” along with Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar. The 24-year-old actor has been balancing films and television career by taking up projects simultaneously. “After my debut film, I was told by many to not change gear to television out of the fear of getting overexposed. But I believe that television gives you more popularity and visibility as an actor. I got a lot of offers to play lead characters,” he says.

Coming from a business family, acting didn’t come naturally to him. “I was a state-level table tennis champion and tried my hand at many things. But acting was always on my mind. I have done many commercials before this film happened and also did roles in “Gumrah” aired on Star Plus,” said Rohan. He is getting all the support from his seniors on the show, including actors Hina Khan and Karan Mehra, who play parents to Rohan’s character. He says “It’s that suddenly both of them will be seen wearing white stripe of hair and all. Their characters will be shown in their 40’s and television too is getting younger following the mantra that 40 is the new 30.” Rohan will also be seen in a new Bollywood project “Yuva”, also starring Jimmy Shergill, Om Puri and Sangram Singh. “The film is a story of three young guys. It shows how their lives change after a certain incident. The preview of the film is out and we will start the promotions soon.”

Now settled in Mumbai, Rohan says he visits Amritsar whenever he gets an opportunity. “My parents are here and I love to come back to home. My family has always been supportive of my dreams and it feels good to finally live the dream,” he adds.
