Amritsar, May 23

A travel agent and his employee were allegedly thrashed and kidnapped by several persons in posh Ranjit Avenue, B-Block Market, on Wednesday evening.

According to information, the victims failed to get study visa for their client which left the assailants enraged, resulting in the brawl.

On the complaint of Chander Kant, father of the victim and travel agency owner Sachin Kumar, the police registered an FIR against suspects Simranjit Singh and his accomplice Kuldeep Singh, both residents of Bhittewad village in Ajnala. Police teams were despatched to various locations for the rescue of victims. The other one was identified as Navroop Prabhakar, who is son of an advocate. The accused released both the victim on Wednesday night.

According to information, the accused were his clients who had given them money for sending abroad. However, the victims neither sent him abroad nor returned the money. This promoted the accused to take law into their hands.

Investigating officer Jatinder Singh said a case under Sections 365, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) had been registered in this connection. He said the victims were found from Lopoke Road while the accused were yet to be arrested. Raids were on to nab them, he added.

The investigations carried out so far revealed that the travel agency did not have any registration or licence, said another police official. He said appropriate action would be taken once the probe was completed.
