Traffic violation has become a common sight in the city as motorists can be seen jumping traffic lights and driving two-wheelers without helmet among others.

Despite multiple awareness campaigns being by the authorities concerned, residents tend to ignore the rules. Ritika sharma, a student, said, “I don’t wear helmet because I find it a little uncomfortable. It becomes difficult for me to manage helmet as well as vehicle.”

Another resident, Sakshay Mahajan, said, “Good-quality helmets are costly. I can’t afford to spend that much amount on a helmet. So, I prefer to ride without one as the cheap ones aren’t going to provide me any safety.”

Indu Arora, a senior resident, said, “There is a need that traffic laws must be implemented in true spirit. People don’t follow rules and are ready to risk their lives. There is a need to change the people’s mindset.”

Talking about traffic violations, ACP (Traffic) Gurmit Singh said, “The number of vehicles are increasing day by day. Traffic police are making continuous efforts to manage them. I am fully aware of the issue that several people these days don’t follow rules. We make sure they are penalised.”
