Traffic snarls in Tarn Taran

TARN TARAN: The oath taking ceremony in Tarn Taran’s sports stadium resulted in a commuting inconvenience as most of the participants had parked their vehicles on the road. After the function, traffic snarls were witnessed for hours.

The oath taking ceremony in Tarn Taran’s sports stadium resulted in a commuting inconvenience as most of the participants had parked their vehicles on the road. After the function, traffic snarls were witnessed for hours.

Meanwhile, Revenue, Water Resources and Mining Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria administered the oath of office to 566 sarpanches, 3,845 panches, 20 zila parishad and 160 block samiti members at the sports stadium in Tarn Taran. 

He said Capt Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government was working scrupulously for the all round development of the rural areas. He said the elected members must work towards eliminating drug abuse. Giving details about the state government’s anti-encroachment campaign, he said panchayats’ income had gone up approximately to Rs 40 crore after getting 1,400 acres of land free from encroachers.

Tarn Taran MLA Dr Dharambir Agnihotri, Patti MLA Harminder Singh Gill, Khemkarn MLA Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, Baba Bakala MLA Santokh Singh Bhaliapur, Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, IG (Border Range) Surinderpal Singh Parmar and SSP Darshan Singh Mann were also present. However, Ramajit Singh Sikki, MLA from Khadur Sahib, was conspicuous by his absence.
